When I think of the word ministry, the word “doulos” just keeps on recurring in my mind. This brings me to a verse in Romans 1:1 “Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the Gospel of God.”
For us ministry is to serve vertically and horizontally. First and foremost is our relationship with God. Without that you can forget to serve and minister in any way. So for us, when we think of ministry, we ask ourselves how can we serve the Lord in the purpose that He has created us for.
We believe that when we have a relationship with God and serve Him, we create the opportunity to serve and minister horizontally. In this we serve and minister to those who do not have the knowledge of the saving Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. This, we believe, should compel us to take the Gospel to the ends of the earth.
Ministry for us is to be set apart from the pleasures of the “world” so as to preach the Gospel by Word but also to preach the Gospel by our actions and lifestyle. Another word for ministry we say is love. People, inherently, need the love of Christ Jesus and if we do not bring that love to them they will receive the love of this “world” which will lead them to eternal hell.
We believe actions have a very powerful influence on people, especially with children? Our motto has always been “Know Him, Share him …”. People want to experience God in a real way in their everyday life. To minister to people is to tend to their spiritual, physical and mental needs in the attitude Jesus Christ would.
Our objectives is to win souls, but also to truly make them disciples to serve the Lord in the way He has planned for each individual. We want to create opportunities through different means, such as schools or orphanages, where children can experience His love and develop a heart and spirit to share that love with others.
We strongly believe that the church should send out and not always stay at home to minister to their own individual needs. We want to create an awareness of the importance of missions in the local church. To have the faith to send missionaries and not always expect missionaries to come to them. To create an awareness of the need, beyond the boundaries of the walls of the church building.
After seeing an illustration of 19 out of 20 spiritual workers that minister to people who hear the Gospel continuously, we ask ourselves what is our responsibility towards the millions that have not even once heard of Jesus Christ?
This brings me to the conclusion and question, what are we waiting for? It amazes me that we do not need a special revelation from God as not to steal or commit adultery because the Word clearly states this is sin. But the Word also clearly states that we must “Go and make disciples ……”, why do we need hours of prayer and waiting on the Lord if this is His will? I believe we must pray and ask where to go. I have yet to find, in the Word, that God has called so many to stay at “home” and look after themselves. Although I also realise we need the people at home to support those that are sent to the field. It is just amazing how we need this very “special” revelation to serve God.
Because my wife and I have a heart to serve the less fortunate and less privileged, we believe God has called us into mission service. Especially my wife has a heart full of compassion to tend to the physical needs of people where I myself am more evangelistic and realise their need of the Gospel. I believe from the beginning of our lives, without us knowing God has prepared us to live out that what He has created us for. We put a lot of emphasis on children, as we believe that if their foundation is built on Jesus Christ they have the “tools” to live a life worthy of Christ.
Since we have been more and more committed to serve the Lord we have been challenged to go out I faith and trust God to do the impossible through us to His Glory and to the extension of His Kingdom, Amen.
Christ is all, and in all
